ROAD SAFETY INITIATIVE – UPDATE – SEPT 25

ROAD SAFETY INITIATIVE – UPDATE

The Parish Council would like to thank everyone who took the time to respond to the Safety Report produced by the consultant. We received over 300 responses, and a summary of the feedback can be found here: Road Safety Feedback Report.

Following this engagement, we have already held our first meeting with Highways at Central Bedfordshire. As a result, the following has been agreed:

  • Automatic Traffic Counters (ATCs): Our request for three monitoring measures has been agreed. These will be installed for 1 week in September, with results expected by the end of November.

  • 30MPH Speed Limit: Lodge Road will have a new 30MPH speed limit introduced.

  • Immediate Changes: We can begin small improvements, such as painting the “Entrance Gates” to the village and installing new signs.

ATC Locations:

We suggested that the set of lines near Morrisons be relocated further away from the junction, with a distance of at least 200 metres recommended, to ensure more accurate and representative speed measurements.

Once the results of the traffic monitoring are available, we will be working with Highways to progress the wider actions set out in the report. However, Highways have confirmed that the outcomes of the monitoring will determine the scope of future action.

We will continue to share updates as this important initiative moves forward.
